Transcription Factor: A Powerful Tool to Regulate Biosynthesis of Active Ingredients in Salvia miltiorrhiza

نویسندگان

چکیده

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge is a common Chinese herbal medicine, and its major active ingredients are phenolic acids tanshinones, which widely used to treat vascular diseases. However, the wild form of S. possess low levels these important pharmaceutical agents; thus, improving their an area research. Transcription factors, promote or inhibit expressions multiple genes involved in one more biosynthetic pathways, powerful tools for controlling gene expression biosynthesis. Several families transcription factors have been reported participate regulating acid tanshinone biosynthesis influence accumulation. This review summarizes current status this field, with focus on identified recent years functions regulation tanshinones. Otherwise, new insight further research provided. Finally, application by discussed, insights future explored.

Genome-wide characterisation and analysis of bHLH transcription factors related to tanshinone biosynthesis in Salvia miltiorrhiza

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Labiatae) is an emerging model plant for traditional medicine, and tanshinones are among the pharmacologically active constituents of this plant. Although extensive chemical and pharmaceutical studies of these compounds have been performed, studies on the basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors that regulate tanshinone biosynthesis are limited. In our stud...

Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi Regulate the Growth and Phyto-Active Compound of Salvia miltiorrhiza Seedlings

Roots and rhizomes of Salvia miltiorrhiza (S. miltiorrhiza) are widely used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMFs) have been shown to enhance plant growth and increase secondary metabolites concentration in many plant species. However, effects of AMFs on S. miltiorrhiza have not been explored. A pot culture was designed as one control (non-AMF) treatme...

Enhancing diterpenoid concentration in Salvia miltiorrhiza hairy roots through pathway engineering with maize C1 transcription factor.

Tanshinones are valuable natural diterpenoids from danshen (Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge). Here, it was demonstrated that maize transcription factor C1 improved the accumulation of tanshinones by comprehensively upregulating the pathway genes, especially SmMDC and SmPMK in danshen hairy roots, yielding total tanshinones up to 3.59mg g(-1) of dry weight in line C1-6, a 3.4-fold increase compared wi...

Transcriptome-wide identification of genes related to fatty acid biosynthesis in the medicinal plant Salvia miltiorrhiza

Salvia miltiorrhiza is an important medicinal plant that is commonly used in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and neuro-asthenic insomnia. How to increase the production of its active components is an active area of research. Since the fatty acid biosynthesis pathway is linked to the production of its active components, here we performed a systematic identification of the genes involved...

Transcriptome Analysis of Medicinal Plant Salvia miltiorrhiza and Identification of Genes Related to Tanshinone Biosynthesis

Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, a perennial plant of Lamiaceae, accumulates abietane-type diterpenoids of tanshinones in root, which have been used as traditional Chinese medicine to treat neuroasthenic insomnia and cardiovascular diseases. However, to date the biosynthetic pathway of tanshinones is only partially elucidated and the mechanism for their root-specific accumulation remains unknown. To ...
